Department of English is one of the founding departments of Govt Degree College Magam. It is the cornerstone of the humanities and Arts at the College. Established as one of the first Departments of Govt Degree College Magam in 2011, the Department of English has the honour of serving for more than 13 years with dedication. The English Department aims to give the learners a sound understanding of the English language. The learners would develop an understanding of English and other literature of their choice from the proper historical perspectives. A good knowledge of reading comprehension and writing skills would be a prerequisite for the programme. The programmes offer an opportunity for learners to pursue higher studies in English. Besides offering the core courses available in other universities, it includes themes in some of the emerging areas of English that are expected to be extremely useful in the present scenario of economic liberalization and globalization. The Department aims at providing instruction in both traditional and current areas of English Studies. In addition to the core General English, English Literature, Communicative English, and Functional English components, it imparts knowledge in various skill enhancement courses including Technical Writing, Soft Skills, etc. and also offers a wide range of courses from New Literature including Comparative Studies, Translation, Culture, Language Studies and Pedagogy
