OVERVIEW OF THE LIBRARY
Government Degree College Magam was established in the year 2011. The college right from its inception has started with the library collection of 300 books. The college is having a separate Central Library that acts as resource hub for providing access to information resources to all the faculty members and students of the college. The library is having the collection of 15,000 books at present. The whole library is maintained by librarian and two professional assistants.
The library comprises of a big textbook section situated in ground floor, separate librarian room, an automation section, circulation section for circulating books. There is a separate reading section situated in the first floor, reference section, browsing section for internet surfing, a separate Newspaper section all designed to support learning, research and information access.
OBJECTIVES

To acquire, organize and update the library collection according to user needs,

To assist user community in effective use of e-resources and ICT technology in their curriculum.

To motivate students to read more beyond their curriculum in order to encourage them for research and other competitive examinations, developing literary skills and thus enriching their personal and professional lives.

To preserve the library valuable resources in order to foster lifelong learning for future generations.

To promote intercultural diversity by promoting wide range of cultural awareness.
VISION AND MISSION
Library aims to be a vibrant hub for lifelong learning and research and mission is to help user community to utilize library resources effectively. It also intends to incorporate latest ICT technology, provide latest resources and services in order to foster their intellectual growth. Libraries should have user-friendly approach towards its end users.
WORKING HOURS OF LIBRARY
The library is open on all working days from 10 am to 4 pm.

BROWSING CENTRE
The browsing section is established in the first floor of college library having seating capacity for 30 users. The Centre provides free internet access to all Faculty and enrolled students on rotation basis.
REPROGRAPHIC FACILITY
The college library provides reprographic facility to all faculty and students with nominal charges.

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY
SELECTION PROCESS

A Library Committee is being framed in the college at the beginning of every academic year which is responsible for whole selection of information resources for college Library.
-
The Library Committee comprises of Librarian as Convenor, a teaching faculty member as
Co-Convener and rest other faculty members as members of the Library Committee.

The Committee draws up its recommendations for procurement of books and Journals for college Library before the Principal.
-
During selection process budget is taken into consideration.
-
All teaching faculty members provide list of books in their concerned subject areas keeping in view the Curriculum based needs of the user community.

The recommended list of books of all faculty members is presented before the principal for final approval after that the books are purchased from various reputed publishers either through proper tendering or expression of interest.
ORGANISATION OF RESOURCES
After books are procured, they are to be organized in a proper way so as to make them accessible to user community.

Firstly, books are being accessioned.

After that they are organized subject wise accordingly. DDC is used as a tool for classification of books subject wise.

The resources are further organized as Textbooks, Reference books, General books.

The books are then computerized in SOUL 2.0 Software so that is becomes quite easy to locate a particular book.

Same books are being barcoded and labelled for circulation process.
