Department Profile
As a result of rapidly evolving job market due to the technological advancements, economic developments, and shifting client preferences, the ‘New Education Policy 2020’ was framed by Govt. of India. It is under the framework of this policy that Veterinary Technology (VT) was established as a department at GDC Magam in 2024. The current mandate of the department of VT is to provide different skill courses to the undergraduate students. Currently the department is staffed with one permanent faculty.
VISION
Nurturing the undergraduate students into valuable human resources by imparting them skills pertaining to VT and hence increasing their entrepreneurship potential and employability in the job market.

Brief Profile
Dr. Nasir Akbar Mir, Assistant Professor (Veterinary Technology), joined Govt. Degree College, Magam on 11 March 2024. He served in Department of Animal Husbandry as Veterinary Surgeon from 07 March 2019 to 10 March 2024. He has worked as Research Associate of CSIR Project from November 2016 to September 2018 at ‘Central Avian Research Institute (CARI)’, Izatnagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Mir obtained his MVSc and Ph.D from ‘Indian Veterinary Research Institute’, Izatnagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh in 2013 and 2016, respectively. He has into his credit the UGC-NET and ICAR-NET with ICAR-JRF for MVSc and UGC-JRF/SRF for Ph.D degrees. He is the recipient of ‘IPSA Dr. D. Choudhary Best Ph.D thesis award (2017), Young Scientist Award by Animal Physiologists’ Association of India (2018), Best poster presentation award at IPSA conference at Port Blair (2018), Dr. Verghese Kurien Best Young Scientist award at National Conference on Natural Science by Bose Science Society of India (2019), Research Excellence Award 2020 by Institute of Scholars (an ISO 9001:2015 certified institute), etc. Dr. Mir has attended six training programmes, nine conferences, and has made eight paper and four poster presentations in various conferences. He is the life member of various scientific societies like Indian Poultry Science Association, Bose Science Society, J&K State Veterinary Council, and Institute of Scholars. Dr. Mir has published more than 60 research papers and more than 10 review papers in various highly reputed international and national journals. He has also wrote eight magazine articles as well. Dr. Mir is the owner of a scientific journal “Letters in Animal Biology” which is publishing in the field of veterinary/animal science since 2021.
